East of 101 Area Plan and EIR

City of South San Francisco

David Early oversaw the preparation of this plan for a 1,600-acre area in South San Francisco east of the Bayshore Freeway.  Land uses in the project area have shifted from the former heavy industrial uses, such as meat packing and steel production, to office, biotechnology, research, warehousing, marinas and hotels.  The East of 101 Area Plan created an economic development strategy and land use vision that ensured the economic and functional vitality of the area and its new industries.  It also addressed the study area's proximity to San Francisco International Airport.  The Plan designated land uses, circulation routes, and infrastructure improvements, and included design guidelines to improve the visual quality of this changing area.*
