North Coast Area Plan and EIR

San Luis Obispo County

DC&E prepared an update to San Luis Obispo County’s existing Area Plan for the North Coast Planning Area, one of California’s most exceptional landscapes. The Planning Area included the unincorporated town of Cambria, as well as the smaller community of San Simeon Acres. The North Coast Area Plan serves as the County’s General Plan for this area. The updated Plan required an EIR and approval by both the County Board of Supervisors and the Coastal Commission. Major issues addressed by the Area Plan and EIR included overall development potential, traffic, visual quality, water supply and flooding. DC&E balanced the sometimes conflicting concerns of the local community, development interests and the Coastal Commission to prepare an implementable plan that was both sensitive to the area’s unique environment and allowed for responsible development.
