DC&E is preparing an EIR for the siting of two proposed middle schools on the site of the former Melrose Lumber Facilities in East Oakland. Key environmental issues include possible hazardous materials remediation due to historically industrial use of the site, potential street closures and realignment to enlarge the site, and the impacts of increased traffic in the area.
