DC&E prepared an EIR for a proposed 34-unit hotel and 10-apartment unit development in downtown Sonoma. The project site lies within the Sonoma Plaza Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and the project site contains a residential building that is considered a contributing structure to the District. Potential impacts to on-site historic and archaeological resources and to the Historic District were among the most important aspects to be studied. The project site is also located in a mixed-use district that transitions from high-density commercial uses around Sonoma Plaza to medium- and low-residential uses; the proposed project was therefore analyzed for its compatibility with and impacts on those uses, especially those related to traffic and parking in the busy Plaza area.
