Geospatial Data Geo-referencing and Organization

Town of Truckee

DC&E consolidated, organized, and geo-referenced over 300 discrete GIS data layers for the Town of Truckee. DC&E first acquired the data from the Town and a variety of partner agencies in the Lake Tahoe region. Much of the GIS data had different, incorrect, or missing coordinate system information or metadata, which would have inhibited the Town's ability to use the data to its fullest extent. DC&E organized the data into fifteen themes (e.g. Infrastructure, General Plan data, Land Use, etc.) and deleted redundant or outdated GIS files. Following the reorganization, each of the data sets was individually re-projected to a common State Plane coordinate system. Additionally, many layers were manually adjusted to align with the parcel base map. The newly reorganized and spatially aligned data were then packaged into a seamless, integrated geodatabase. This database will be used throughout the Town's on-going General Plan Update process and in future town planning efforts.
