C/CAG PLACE3S Modeling

DC&E used the PLACE3S model, an ArcView GIS extension, to develop an interactive tool allowing public workshop participants to allocate new development geographically in San Mateo County’s El Camino Real corridor and assess the transportation and land use impacts of various growth scenarios. The model provided workshop participants with real-time feedback on the implications of various land use decisions, including information on housing units and jobs created, as well as traffic impacts. Municipalities in San Mateo county now have the opportunity to use DC&E’s PLACE3S work to update local General Plans as part of C/CAG’s countywide Transportation Plan update process.
