Arroyo Viejo Creek Restoration Projects
City of Oakland
WMA prepared concept designs, design development and permit documents for the restoration of two reaches of Arroyo Viejo Creek. In one project, adjacent to the Knowland Park Zoo, WMA repaired the channel and bank, replaced non-native invasive species with native riparian plantings, realigned the creekside trail and designed outdoor classroom areas along the creek. The WMA team worked closely with the Zoo's summer education program director to prepare a curriculum outline for each of the outdoor classroom stations. In a second project in Arroyo Viejo Park, WMA prepared design and construction documents for a 700-foot creek restoration featuring a creekside amphitheater, pedestrian bridge, overlooks and picnic areas.
