Gold Bug Park Improvement Project
Hangtown's Gold Bug Park Development Committee, Inc.
Gold Bug Park is a 61-acre historic city park located one mile east of Highway 50 at Placerville, also know as Hangtown. Big Canyon Creek, a tributary of the American River, runs through the park and was the site of substantial placer and hard rock mining beginning in 1848. DC&E developed a Master Plan and feasibility study to identify:
- Opportunities to expand and improve park facilities such as picnic areas, trails and interpretive elements.
- Methods for introducing year-round water to Big Canyon Creek.
- Recommendations to protect historically significant structures and to improve interpretation of them.
- Methods to preserve, restore and educate visitors regarding local flora and fauna.
- Next steps for future design and construction, including funding opportunities and construction costs.
