Cerrito Creek Enhancements

City of El Cerrito

A three block portion of Cerrito Creek runs adjacent to the El Cerrito Plaza Shopping Center. Parking lot development has resulted in narrowing of the channel and placement of concrete and rubble on a large portion of the remaining slopes. WMA coordinated the redesign of this creek segment with a hydrologist, City staff and the community. The final design provides pedestrian access along the creek, widens the cross section for improved hydrologic function, and includes bioengineering techniques and planting with native riparian species to improve water quality and wildlife habitat.
