Berkeley Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge Plazas

WMA prepared the conceptual designs for public plazas on each of the two ends of the Berkeley Bicycle Pedestrian Bridge spanning Interstate 80. The designs, which received considerable community support at public workshops, provide safe access for pedestrians and bicycles and alleviate possible pedestrian/bicycle and automobile conflicts, with opportunities to observe and learn about the native flora and fauna of the adjacent wetlands and marina shore. WMA is now working for the City to prepare construction documents for the east side plaza at Aquatic Park. This plaza will contain informational signage, a map of Berkeley's bikeways, seating, a wetlands overlook and native plantings.
