Shattuck Avenue/Bushrod Park Streetscape Improvements
City of Oakland.
DC&E worked with the City of Oakland, the Office of Councilmember Jane Brunner and the North Oakland Voters Alliance to design a pedestrian friendly entrance to Bushrod Park from Shattuck Avenue. The park previously did not address or enhance its major frontage along Shattuck Avenue and the North Oakland neighborhoods west of the park. DC&E expanded the entry design from three concepts developed in a community initiated design process with UC Berkeley Landscape Architecture graduate students. The park entry construction was completed in November 2007. The classic curved retaining wall, entry stairs, landscape plantings and new park lights enhance the active street environment. Visitors to the park consistently use the new entrance to access the baseball fields and tennis courts located above the Shattuck corridor.red Shattuck corridor.
