IDEAscape

City of Roseville

DC&E prepared a master plan for IDEAscape, a 1-acre outdoor Interactive Demonstration Environmental Area adjoining the City of Roseville’s new LEED™-certified Roseville Utility Exploration Center in Mahany Park, a 225-acre community park that receives well over 500,000 visitors a year. In support of the Exploration Center’s LEED certification, the outdoor demonstration area will incorporate and illuminate principles of sustainability, including energy efficiency, water conservation, watershed management, composting, material lifecycles and wildlife habitat. The IDEAscape Master Plan provides a vision for creating a vibrant and inspiring educational experience, including practical take-home messages of how to reduce dependence and impacts on our natural resources. IDEAscape includes interactive elements such as a solar panel grove, shade and roof variation demonstrations, a paving permeability dome, irrigation and climate adaptation planting beds, an insect habitat area, a materials lifecycle zone, a composting demonstration, a global climate story grove and a wildlife lookout. The project utilizes native and drought tolerant plant materials, customized educational structures, and attractive, recycled construction materials to provide a beautiful and functional educational tool while meeting California Department of Education Content Standards for Grades 4 through 6.
