Novato Bay Trail Feasibility Analysis

City of Novato

This project was funded by the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) Bay Trail Project and jointly managed by the City of Novato and Marin County, which identified a trail alignment from Pacheco Pond to the Petaluma River across publicly-owned Bay wetlands, private property and transportation rights-of-way. Focusing on existing flood control levees, service and maintenance roads, and existing roadways and railroad rights-of-way, the study involved key stakeholder agencies including the California Department of Fish and Game, Novato Sanitary District, Marin County Flood Control and Water Conservation District and local nonprofit organizations. The study resulted in a planning-level engineering assessment and cost estimate, with accompanying maps identifying the recommended trail location, as well as trail design standards, maintenance and management considerations, biological and other resource permitting requirements and an implementation and phasing plan.
