Boronda Community Plan

Monterey County Housing and Redevelopment Agency

DC&E worked with the Monterey County Housing and Redevelopment Agency to develop the Boronda Community Plan for an urbanized portion of the County immediately adjacent to the City of Salinas. Historically a rural community, Boronda has experienced significant growth pressures in recent years. In preparing the Boronda Community Plan, DC&E structured new development around an open space armature that used local wetlands and accompanying drainage facilities as its primary focus. The land use and circulation planning were initiated by the development of a conceptual alignment for an extension into the Plan Area of Rossi Road, which will connect the Boronda community to existing neighborhoods in Salinas. A network of pedestrian and bicycle trails augmented the vehicular circulation system and also connected new development in Boronda to the circulation and trail systems in Salinas. The Boronda Community Plan informed the update to the Monterey County General Plan.
