Downtown Façade and Streetscape Improvement Study

City of Hughson

Building on its work on the Hughson General Plan and EIR, DC&E developed a series of design improvement strategies for the downtown area of this small Central Valley city. DC&E created a booklet that illustrates potential improvements that can be made to downtown building façades to facilitate pedestrian activity for businesses along the city’s main street. DC&E also developed a low-interest loan program that the City is now using to enable business owners to construct façade improvements. DC&E also designed a conceptual plan for sidewalk, street tree and landscaping improvements to Hughson Avenue, and created a comprehensive strategy for Downtown Hughson that includes potential infill sites for new buildings, pedestrian amenities and bicycle facilities including crosswalks and bicycle parking areas, and locations for shared off-street parking facilities.
