“Tools of Engagement” Concept Plans
City of Davis
The Sacramento Area Council of Governments Blueprint Project Civic Engagement Program awarded the City of Davis a grant to prepare concept plans for development of two infill sites using enhanced community engagement techniques. One infill site, known as the Simmon’s Estate, is a 12.1-acre property located one mile northeast of downtown Davis, while the other is the Wildhorse Nugget Fields, located several blocks north of the Simmon’s Estate. The City’s key objectives for these properties are to develop plans that have broad public support and to pilot a community engagement approach that will lead to positive changes in how development projects, particularly infill projects, are planned, reviewed and approved. DC&E is engaging the Davis community in an innovative, productive process centered on four-day charrettes that will help the City reach these objectives. The process will result in customized design concepts for the two sites, and increased capacity of City staff and community members to engage in collaborative planning processes that can be replicated in other settings.
