Onizuka AFS Redevelopment Plan

City of Sunnyvale, as a subconsultant to Bay Area Economics

DC&E is part of a team assisting the City of Sunnyvale in preparing and analyzing conceptual reuse options for the 19-acre Onizuka Air Force Station. The Onizuka base was founded in 1960 as the western administrative center of satellite operations for the Air Force. All Operations at the base are being phased out, and the base is expected to be converted to civilian reuse by 2011. DC&E’s role is to provide conceptual site plans for five re-use options that include office development, auto retailers, a four star hotel, and housing. DC&E is also directing a review of historic resources on the site to assess the potential significance of structures and recommend a strategy to respect these potentially historic resources. Following review by the Local Redevelopment Agency, one of the five reuse options will be selected as the preferred option and refined by the team into a Final Redevelopment Plan.
